Historically, addiction is defined as "physical and psychological dependence on psychoactive substances which cross the blood-brain barrier once ingested, temporarily altering the chemical milieu of the brain."
With close to 40 million users and with 40,000 new profiles created every single day, SNAP Interactive, the creators of the AreYouInterested.com brand, an online dating platform, certainly has a lot to look forward to in 2011. AreYouInterested.com, designed to help single men and women connect and form lasting relationships, has expanded exponentially since its inception in 2007 and now boasts an iPhone and Facebook application and website, making it the premier destination for singles on social networks, according to company officials.
Changing the channel. It's a concept as old as television itself (though...once upon a time you actually needed to get off the couch to do it, if you're over 35). And soon it may be heading to Internet-based viewing, as well. Google, which owns video-sharing website YouTube, has indicated today that it plans a major overhaul of the site by creating so-called "channels" to compete with broadcast and cable TV, The Wall Street Journal reported today.
The once-popular movie rental chain Blockbuster just went bye-bye in an auction and is now in the hands of Dish Network.
More competition. It's supposed to be good for free markets and consumer choice, driving down prices and driving up quality. There doesn't seem to be a lot of competition or choice to be had nowadays, particularly in consumer telecom products. Even less of it since wireless provider T-Mobile is to be purchased by AT&T (pending approval), leaving the U.S. with only three major wireless providers: AT&T in first place, Verizon in second and Sprint bringing up the rear.
Vivendi will buy the close to half of SFR - which it doesn't hold already - from Vodafone, according to media reports.

Early last year, the search team at Twitter began an effort to rewrite its search engine in order to serve its ever-growing traffic, improve the end-user latency and availability of the service, and enable rapid development of new search features, said the company.
Sometimes social media sites actually respond to user complaints. Twitter has dropped its QuickBar feature from the iPhone app after numerous complaints were voiced online.
Sounds like a crazy experiment-but on a trip to Panama last week, my wife left her laptop at home and took her iPad and Kindle and I left my 11" notebook at home and took a 17" XPS Dell and my kindle on the trip. Our experiences were kind of interesting.
Nowadays, technology is always looking for a way to become ever more interactive. Think about touch screens, and newer video gaming consoles that allow you to control the action of the game with your body (think Wii or Microsoft's Xbox 360). Cool, aren't they? They're nothing compared to what Google is announcing today. The company is debuting a new way to control your Gmail with just the movements of your body.
