How Amazon's blockbuster Whole Foods deal compares to its other biggest acquisitions Amazon stunned the grocery industry — and the world — on Friday when it announced its plans to buy Whole Foods. If approved, the deal would see the online retail giant acquire the high-end grocer for a whopping $13.7 billion.
And that would make it the largest acquisition in Amazon’s history by a country mile — more than $12 billion ahead of what it eventually doled out for online shoe store Zappos and livestreaming service Twitch.
Now, the amount Amazon has to spend for something isn’t 2017 isn’t the same as what it would’ve had to spend in 2009. But however you want to slice it, this seems to be the biggest power move yet from Jeff Bezos and company. Suddenly, the internet’s biggest retailer is about to have a much larger presence offline.
