The sale of Yahoo's core assets to Verizon for a reported $4.83 billion, leaving Yahoo shareholders with roughly a $41 billion investment in Chinese Internet giant Alibaba and a few other small assets, really does mark the end of an era. The former Internet powerhouse has struggled for over a decade to find its voice, and never was able to get it right after its early success as what was then the Swiss Army knife for all things online.
At the end of the week the free upgrade window for Windows 10 closes. This has been an interesting experience because Windows 10 for the most part stepped in and corrected a series of mistakes Microsoft had been repetitively making since Windows 95. From Windows 95 on they treated Windows more like an application bundle than an operating system, and the market suffered for it. It wasn't just the market the practice blocked Microsoft's efforts on Smartphones and initial tablets and largely contributed to the resignation of one of Microsoft's most powerful and long lasting executives Steve Ballmer.
Recently, the police's ability to access someone's phone has been a hot topic in American news. I'm sure we all remember the ordeal involving Apple and the FBI in regards to the San Bernadino shooter's phone privacy. It raised a lot of questions about how far the police are allowed to go before infringing on an individual's rights in the search for justice and the truth.
It's no secret that development and programming are very highly sought-after skills these days. Various tech jobs are consistently among the highest paying jobs in America, alongside doctors and lawyers, and as the tech world continues to influence other industries, be it medicine, manufacturing or finance, the demand for programmers will only grow. There are all sorts of different languages and frameworks to pick from when it comes to development, though, so how do you choose which one is best for you to master? The move from hardware- to software-based networking solutions, along with the fact that our still recovering economy has kept many businesses cautious in terms of new investments, has been a significant one-two punch for traditional telecommunications equipment companies like Ericsson. It is amidst this setting that the networking supplier Ericsson yesterday announced that long-time CEO Hans Vestberg has left the company as president, CEO and board member.

Its goal was identification of the global technology trends shaping the modern workplace in general with some specifics about the millennials.
Oracle this morning revealed plans to buy cloud company NetSuite for $9.3 billion. The deal is expected to close later this year.
