In the quintessential absurdist play, Waiting for Godot, by Samuel Beckett, a common interchange between the main characters Vladimir and Estragon is exemplified by the following: Let's go. We can't. Why not? We're waiting for Godot. This is sometimes followed by some version of When will he ever come? Such is becoming the case with Microsoft's supposed embrace of WebRTC. We are still waiting.
For those who are in the process of becoming WebRTC mavens, you know that while WebRTC is supported by the Chrome, Firefox and Opera browsers, for the moment the rather important screen sharing function is not supported on Firefox and Opera. You also know that in terms of exploiting the early and real value of WebRTC for things like contact center omnichannel interactions and intra-enterprise unified communications (UC) and real-time collaboration capabilities, screen sharing is one of those must haves.
And that's just the simply shuffling-data mode. Voice and video can be applied as appropriate in the home, car, and office, depending on the circumstances. A problem or alarm at home can trigger an alert to both the individual's smart phone and a centralized monitoring service, with both able to review in home video to assess the problem and dispatch a technician for repair if necessary.
In what has to be a first on almost any front for any vertical market, customer experiencing benchmarking company XYZ Research has reported that the U.S. airlines achieved 100 percent customer satisfaction for the month of March. It appears this amazing success is directly attributable to airline adoption of omnichannel interactions based on WebRTC.
