Featured Articles While cable and telco TV providers continue to distribute original series that are more effective than stale movies in landing viewers, the case could be made that the race is already over - with OTT power and content owner Netflix the winner, and non-movie channels FX and AMC placing well. The mantra of the day in the broadband community sometimes seems to focus almost too much on "the need for speed." Increasingly, however, attention is being paid by service providers and their customers to the challenges of things related to Quality of Service (QoS) assurances, Class of Service (CoS) experiences and overall bandwidth utilization. This week there were two interestingly similar, though unrelated, stories about self-flying planes and self-driving cars. On the Today Show, it was said that the FAA came out with a report advocating that pilots who use autopilots need to stay vigilant in case the autopilot is unable to fly the plane. Apparently a number of crashes have resulted from pilots being unable to take control from the autopilot during an emergency. In the Huffington Post, there was a similar story regarding self-driving cars and noted that should a car get into trouble while the driver is napping or doing something else the result would be equally catastrophic. In previous articles on the importance of LTE Diameter signaling as necessary to driving the next generation of mobile services, I have pointed out why attention must be paid to this critical piece of infrastructure plumbing.
