It should come as no surprise, with the success of cloud computing, that a resourceful company would figure out a way to match potential sellers of excess cloud-based computing resources with buyers in need of a boost. That is precisely what German financial markets operator Deutsche Boerse has announced with its revelation that it will be at the center of what it sees as the commoditization of computing power with the launch early next year of the world's first independent exchange for trading cloud computing capacity.
As Deutsche notes, cloud computing not only facilitates users getting rid of the cost of owning and operating their own hardware, but also has enabled them to easily switch between third-party machines according to where processing power is cheapest. The company says the Cloud Exchange will open as a spot market in the first quarter of next year enabling customers “to buy capacity just like they would commodities such as oil and electricity.” Read More
