Lost in a storm of stats accompanying Verizon's latest quarterly results report is growth in the company's FiOS TV service, with the telco adding 119,000 new subscribers - less than the company had predicted but roughly the same as the previous quarter. Cable MSOs may be losing subscribers in the United States, but IPTV operators like Verizon Communications and AT&T Inc. are benefitting from their woes: IPTV subscribers will more than double from 8.8 million in 2011 to 18.6 million in 2017, according to Parks Associates. The resulting competitive shift will drive cable in particular to roll out innovative service bundles in order to retain customers. Tely Labs has some news to share, with a new business video conferencing system. The telyHD Business Edition (BE) brings high-quality, multi-party video calling, along with many other features, to businesses at a price affordable no matter what their size. Worldwide pay-TV revenue is ticking upwards despite global economic woes and fear of cannibalization from over-the-top (OTT) services. Total revenue is expected to reach $236 billion by the end of 2012, up from $223 billion in 2011, according to ABI Research. In the United States however, the picture is a bit complicated.
