Featured Articles Google and Microsoft have agreed to end a group of 20 smartphone and video game lawsuits in the U.S. and Germany. The battles started in 2010 over royalty payments connected to the Microsoft Xbox game console and smartphones from Motorola Mobility; Google sold off the phone company to Lenovo in early 2014 but kept the patents. Jack Dorsey, current founder and CEO of the payment company Square and founder of Twitter, is expected to retake the helm as Twitter's CEO without resigning as the head of Square. This news comes after a roiling three-month search for Twitter's head executive, during which Dorsey acted as an interim CEO. Rich Communications Services (RCS) is a controversial topic in net purists' circles and the discussion just got hotter: Google has purchased Jibe Mobile. more than 68 percent of consumers have yet to use mobile financial services, but that number is changing as mobile broadband continues to roll out globally, and as carriers start to get involved. In fact, carriers will play a critical role in the next phase of adoption. Virgin America has heard the cries of travelers and has recently started offering free Netflix streaming on some of its flights. While the hardware updates are certainly impressive, Google's new software updates stole the spotlight. The innocuously-named Marshmallow operating system was the main feature of today's announcement. Burke walked the audience through an exploration of Marshmallow's newly polished features. Last week Apple launched its next foray into the world of television, announcing a complete overhaul of their Apple TV platform. Apple's new vision, according to CEO Tim Cook: We believe the future of television is apps. This week I got a troubling email from an Apple customer who had been wronged by the company. While this is only a sample of one there have been rumblings that Apple support has been degrading (there is even a site for pissed Apple customers to vent) as the company cuts costs to maintain margins and try to stop the slide in stock price. It struck me upon listening to the tale that there are some common lessons here that could apply to Windows as well particularly give there is a massive criminal effort by, fortunately largely inept crooks, to call you saying they work for Microsoft and want to fix your PC when instead they want to do something nefarious.
