Latest Featured Articles The biannual ITEXPO was held in Miami this year, and has now come to a close. Workshops discussed several business technology topics and products, including VoIP phone systems, IT management, and more. One of the hottest topics discussed at this year's convention had to do with a revolutionary concept for video conferencing, WebRTC. WebRTC is expected to make a big splash in simplifying how businesses communicate over video. There is this great video circulating around the Web depicting what conference calls would look like in real life. If you've ever been on a conference call over the phone, you've probably experienced one of the featured situations in the video, from joining a conference and identifying who is on the call to losing connections, talking over someone else and trying to communicate with distracted people. WebRTC adoption predictions are all over the place. One week I hear that 2014 is the year of WebRTC, and some days I hear that WebRTC is only scratching the surface; still fragile. I think the truth of the matter is it's both - 2014 will definitely make a dent in the growth of WebRTC, introducing new players, products and standards, but we're still a few years away from seeing WebRTC implemented as we envision it, as a disruptive technology for a multitude of industries, including education, healthcare and customer service. WebRTC has some businesses worried about Internet security, and the possibility that hackers could use the video client to listen in on conferences or gain access to private networks.
