May 01, 2013 Axeda and the M2M Cathedral Just in case you have never had to endure a motivational speaker, let me explain the Cathedral metaphor. The story goes that a bishop came to see how brick layers were managing their work. The first worker the bishop came across was not particularly happy and his worked reflected his attitude. The bishop asked him what he was doing. He responded that he was doing his job of putting brick on mortar on brick again and again. It was clear that the conversation could not go much further, so the bishop went to another worker. This man showed a greater precision, and when the bishop asked what he was doing, the second man paused, took a step back and then answered the question by saying he was doing his job of building this wall. Finally, the bishop came upon a third brick layer who seemed not only happy but enthusiastic. The bishop asked him what he was doing, and the man turned to him proudly smiled and said “I am building a cathedral.’
