Google Dropping Dedicated Gmail App for Blackberry


Google (News - Alert) seems to be sort of up and down when it comes to supporting native Gmail apps for different devices. Google has been working rather hard in order to get a native Gmail app out there for the iPad. In fact they did have one released, but had to pull it thanks to the fact that the app was interacting with the iPad in an expected way. Still, there seems to be a “never say die” attitude about finally launching a Gmail app for Apple's (News - Alert) signature tablet. That same sort of approach is not present when it comes to the RIM Blackberry.


Starting on November 22nd, Google will no longer be supporting the Gmail app for the Blackberry. This means that you can still use your Gmail app on the Blackberry but it won't get updated and you won't be able to receive support. Google said that they are doing this because the company is moving its focus away from their mobile phone apps. This move seems in line with the earlier announcement that the company was going to be killing off some of its less popular programs...
