Better'n Peanut Butter, Banana - We're a little worried that we dreamt up this product and will soon awaken to discover it never existed at all. Until that happens, OMG, it's guilt-free peanut spread that tastes like BANANAS. We hear it's slowly rolling out into stores, so keep a lookout for jars of the stuff. A 2-tbsp. serving has 100 calories, 2g fat, 190mg sodium, 13g carbs, 2g fiber, 2g sugars, and 4g protein (PointsPlus® value 2*). We'll be craving PB-nana sandwiches 'til we find it... Weight Watchers Natural Light Smoked Flavor String Cheese - This isn't just any string cheese; it's not even just any light string cheese. This is smoked mozzarella string cheese. That's NUTS! Each piece has 50 calories, 2.5g fat, 140mg sodium, <1g carbs, 0g fiber, 0g sugars, and 6g protein (PointsPlus® value 1). YUM! Annie Chun's All Natural Asian Cuisine Ramen House - No ordinary college-dorm ramen here! Our girl Annie Chun has some seriously tasty noodle soups that aren't loaded with crazy amounts of fat like some other ramen products. Frozen-meal consumption is reportedly at an all-time high in the United States -- a sizable 16 percent of dinners come from the freezer aisle! Plus, in a recent weight-loss study, subjects on a reduced-calorie eating plan that included diet-friendly frozen meals lost an average of 6 pounds in a 30-day period. Not bad! And we're happy to report that there are more light choices than ever packed into those freezer cases. Green Giant is making it even easier to eat smart with its new Healthy Colors line. Just choose your blend of veggies in low-fat sauce, and steam the bag in your microwave; the word "DONE" will LITERALLY appear on the package when your food is perfectly steamed. WHOA. And Healthy Choice has added four new entrées to its Asian Inspired Café Steamers lineup: Kung Pao Chicken, Beef Teriyaki, Lemongrass Chicken & Shrimp, and Pineapple Chicken. It might be time for a new frozen food taste test... | | | Chill Out and Eat Up! | | | | | | | | Salt-Slashing Superstars! | | | Assault on Sodium! (Get It? A Salt?) Wanna get down with the recent sodium-slashing trend that's sweeping the nation? Here are the latest companies getting in on the reduced-salt fun. (Yes, FUN.) Subway has been making moves to offer foods with lower fat and calorie contents for a while, but the sodium has remained on the high side -- which is not surprising, considering that deli meat, cheese, and bread all have significant amounts of salt. But the chain recently exceeded its goal of reducing the sodium in its Fresh Fit sandwich line by 25 percent and cut the sodium in all sandwiches by 15 percent. Nice! Pepperidge Farm just announced that 83 percent of its products are at least 25 percent lower in sodium than standard bread items, surpassing its initial goal as well. And one of the nuttiest companies around -- Planters -- is scaling back its salt too. All of the Planters products are getting an average sodium reduction of 10 percent by next year. Plus, there are light-in-sodium products in the NUT•rition line, including the Heart Healthy Mix (with 50 percent less sodium than standard Planters mixed nuts), Bone Health Mix (low in sodium), and Omega-3 Mix (with no sodium at all)! This is nice, Planters, and we appreciate it... but can we make one small request? Make 100-calorie packs!!! (Pleeease???) | | | | | | The Buzz... Hey, Minneapolis! So check out Voli light vodka -- plain and flavored varieties of vodka with 25 to 40 percent fewer calories than leading brands! (FYI: With an alcohol content of 30 percent, they're also a bit weaker than standard vodka.) ***Lunchables are lightening up! Traditionally, the li'l boxes include junky snack food, but Oscar Mayer has gone a different direction and added options with fruit to the collection. The new Lunchables with Fruit have a reported 280 - 440 calories and 8 - 12g fat per package. Mandarin oranges and pineapple tidbits are a big step up from cookies... Way to go! ***Speaking of fruit, the word is out that eating tart cherries could reduce the risk of heart disease. Eating these cherries has been connected to less inflammation and lower cholesterol levels. We're big fans of Sun-Maid Tart Cherries -- they're sweet, sour, chewy, and awesome! Dried cranberries are SO 1998 anyway... That's all we've got. HG out! | | | Updated Tour Info! Read Carefully! | | | | | | | | | | | | Would you be so kind as to pass the news... to your pals?
