The day began with an overview, and before I knew it I was downloading FileZilla and neck deep in RESTcomm. Starting with the RESTcomm Dashboard, I provisioned a phone number, set-up my client and was 'clicking to call'. The session moved onto RESTComm Markup Language (RCML), which is where we learned about actions. Command prompts like SAY, PLAY, COLLECT, DIAL, RECORD, REJECT - for starters, these verbs determine behavior.
Real-time communications capabilities are revolutionizing several industries, including healthcare. Patient care is no longer confined to a hospital room or doctor's office. Instead, doctors, patients and other caregivers can now meet in a fully HIPAA-compliant online environment. Telemedicine startup Digital Noema Telehealth (DNTelehealth) is jumping on this new trend with the announcement that they have integrated with Temasys' Embedded Real-Time Communications (ERTC) WebRTC platform.
A staple of reporting in the communications market, GENBAND has made a name for itself with the Kandy cloud-based service that allows clients to join voice, video, and texting into their mobile and web applications. The latest integration of Kandy will come at the hands of CoolDoctors, which provides applications for telemedicine and ophthalmology.
The ongoing challenge for mobile operators is how to leverage this mobile-first mentality when OTT services, like WhatsApp, Skype and others are beating operators at their own game and out-innovating them during this all-IP transition and the migration to LTE networks we're in the midst of - which also includes moving to Voice over LTE - or VoLTE.
