The Oncoming Tectonic Shift in Telecom - TechZone360

Carriers competing on connectivity have created a massive overabundance of supply. This race-to-zero for both wired and wireless connectivity is turning the concept of carriers as 'dumb pipes' into a reality.
Computex is the huge technology show that kicks off in Asia this time of year, and typically is a showcase of interesting products set to launch before the year-end holidays. Traditionally, it has been more of a PC show and with the decline of PCs a lot of the excitement connected to the show has declined as well. This year there is a clear shift not only in what the show covers expanding strongly out of PCs but in revalidating PCs as a viable future platform as well. Given PCs were supposedly killed by tablets and tablets are declining faster than PCs that whole PC is Dead thing needed to be reevaluated anyway.
The sheer vastness of technology's presence in today's world is enough to make anyone's head spin, even if you are keeping up with the news on a regular basis. Now that we're well into 2016, though, it's important to know where things are headed and what technological developments are poised to make waves in the coming months. With that in mind, here are five technology trends peaking in 2016.
As resources that tend to become the gold standard as references for what lies ahead, there are few that can rival the Cisco Visual Networking Index (VNI). Indeed, the publication of the VNI is one of the most anticipated ones of the year up and down ICT food chains and ecosystems. And, the good news is that those of us who write, think and plan about the relatively near-term future need wait no longer. Cisco has released this year's Cisco Visual Networking Index (VNI) Complete Forecast for 2015 to 2020. As the headline proclaims, the big news is that global IP traffic will nearly triple at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22 percent over the next five years.

I'm not sure exactly when I started losing respect for Verizon, but standing on my front porch in a Northern Virginia neighborhood two weeks ago and having calls drop at least twice as I was filing insurance claims didn't help. (The #VerizonWireless Twitter-bot made sympathetic noises, but provided no data on local wireless quality of service or plan of action for corrections, FYI). To hear Verizon executives recently tout how strong the company will be in 5G and 6G put the nail in the coffin for me, as I'm having LTE deja vu all over again.
However, there is one major difference between the Gear Fit2 and its competitors. This wristband features three different tracking modes for running, bicycling, and using the elliptical. This is important for those who want accurate readings from their devices, as the movements of the wearers can differ across these three different modes of exercising. This leads to inaccuracies in the readings of many other fitness wearables, something that Samsung is looking to eliminate.
