Mavenir Acquisition May be Just the Start of WebRTC Driven Acquisitions in 2015 - WebRTC World

Today, Mitel announced they were acquiring Mavenir, a leader in mobile systems with about $130M in annual revenue. While Mavenir has been focused on mobile technology, they have also been a leader in WebRTC integration, both at a browser level, but also at a mobile platform level. With the Mavenir WebRTC gateway, a key part of the options offered have been extending the IMS/mobile environment into other devices using WebRTC or to include WebRTC based mobile clients in apps.
The continuing trend in IT is to simplify the way users interact with hardware and software. While computing devices are being designed to be more efficient with better user interfaces, open source applications are being developed to be device agnostic's so they can be used by anyone without compatibility issues.
Many people think of WebRTC as a technology that is ancillary to other software platforms, either to contact customer service or for collaboration purposes but generally as a handmaiden to another technology. We've seen WebRTC go beyond VoIP and video conferencing, with no plug-ins to download or install that may not be compatible with consumers' browsers across desktop, mobile or tablet.
Seamless communication between IP messaging services is getting a whole lot easier. GENBAND and Jibe Mobile both made interconnection announcements to beat the tidal wave of news out of Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain starting today. Federation is being touted as the new best way to beat larger over-the-top (OTT) services, so there's likely more news to come in the days and months ahead.
