When it comes to the trends shaping the business phone market, there's no question that 2015 will be lively when it comes to migrating to next-gen gear and applications. As a result, WebRTC, SIP trunking and unified communications, enterprise mobility integration and streamlined telephony processes for IT will continue to be at the forefront of things.
With AT&T announcing support for WebRTC this week at its Developer Summit, the technology continues getting better for the enterprise. It's going to be a hot 12 months as it evolves for developers and while it opens up new avenues for businesses to interact with customers.
For those of us close to the communications and collaboration industry, WebRTC seems to be an innovative concept and potentially a major disruption.
When it comes to innovation these days the boundaries that one might expect separating various market segments are disappearing and rightfully so. Indeed, so much of what we are seeing in one space serves as an enabler/disruptor in adjacent areas of activity.
One of the great things about the open source community is that it can move. Just how fast is exhibited by Mozilla releasing version 35 of its popular Firefox browser in just a few weeks after Firefox version 34 came out. And, for those in the WebRTC community, the reason version 34 was a milestone was that it marked the first stable release of Firefox Hello, the free WebRTC-based video chat service. Well Firefox version 35 not only has some tweaks for users, HTML5 enhanced support and some goodies for developers, it also has an even simpler version of Firefox Hello.
