President Obama Announces Steps for Affordable Universal Broadband - TechZone360

It has become an indisputable fact that broadband connectivity and economic vitality go hand in glove. In the digital age it has become increasingly apparent to everyone that you literally can't have one without the other. It is why so much attention is being paid by governments around the world to assure that broadband is not just universally available but also really fast and affordable.
At risk of offending, Google has a cultural attention deficit disorder problem. It needs to start working to fixing it and put more effort into strategic areas, rather than simply doing a bunch of half-baked projects and leaving them on cruise control while others respond more rapidly. Microsoft and others are going to start pulling customers back in if Google doesn't get serious.
AllPlay is Qualcomm's initiative to recreate the Sonos experience but across a number of vendors. The goal is basically to get the industry to a point were various devices work seamlessly together across your home so music could magically move with you. The first time I saw something like this was at Bill Gate's home where you'd wear a badge and the house would know where you were and play your music out of the speakers nearest you. That has never made it to the market as a product but Microsoft did have the Plays for Sure initiative they created to compete with Apple, which failed spectacularly with the launch of their also failed Zune platform.
Among the unmanned drones, wearable devices, and connected everything (home, car, pet, child, head) stocking up the aisles of CES 2015, voice and audio were on the show floor and in off-site meeting rooms all around Las Vegas. People want more from their earbuds and headsets-to be able to talk to home devices rather than being heads-down in an app all the time.
Consider for a moment where subscription OTT services like Netflix, Amazon etc. would be today if it weren't for their creation of original series programming, along with releasing all episodes of a new season at once. It might seem like the dark ages of online TV.
The brain got a lot of attention at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Concussion monitoring, game control through brainwaves and better mental health were all showcased last week in Las Vegas, combining a number of wearable and stand-alone peripheral concepts.
For anyone who's been on the Internet for any length of time, it's likely that person already knows someone who's had a Twitter, Facebook, or YouTube account hacked. This time, everybody knows someone who's experienced that particular breach of cybersecurity, as well as a YouTube account, thanks to a recent move by pro-ISIS hackers who seized the Twitter feeds and YouTube accounts of the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).
Last year, two of the world's largest social media sites, Facebook and Twitter, announced the addition of 'buy' buttons to their offerings, giving users the option to add billing information to their personal profiles. With just one click, users can now purchase products advertised without being directed to another site for authentication. However, with the 'buy' button still very much in its infancy on social sites, will there be enough consumers willing to give up their card details for it to take off? And more interestingly, will it really make our lives easier?
With the enhancing of the customer experience (CX) now firmly entrenched globally as a C-level top priority, and marketing/outbound communications of all types a fixation on providing differentiated value, understanding marketing trends has never been more important. This is particularly relevant as organizations increase spending in omnichannel customer interactions and marketing departments become more heavily involved in technology investments to improve CX.
The Amber Alert may be one of the most heartbreaking concepts out there. Reserved for when a child goes missing-the mechanism itself is actually a backronym for America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response-such things only go out at one of the worst times in a family's life. But it can also produce one of the best in the right situation: the location of said child and reuniting said child with the family. Facebook, meanwhile, is looking to help out on that front by bringing its toolset into things and bringing highly-targeted Amber Alert messages to its users' News Feed.
Learning another language can be difficult, especially while living in areas in which only one language is spoken for several miles around. So to help fill in the rough spots, we often turn to language guidebooks and the like to help identify just what a particular item is, or the means to ask for a specific point of information. Automated translators can also prove valuable, and that's where a new set of features for Google Translate step in, offering a new means to not only figure out what terms are being used, but how to respond to these terms.
Facebook At Work is available for iOS and Android, as well as a Web-based version available directly at Facebook itself, and at last report, all involved were available as part of a limited pilot mode. With this system, employers can either establish separate links for employees to use, or employes can link the profiles together to access both work and personal Facebook all from one point. With Facebook At Work, companies essentially can create a social network that's specifically for work.
