Startup Temasys Targets WebRTC for IE and Safari - WebRTC World

So far, only Google Chrome, Opera and Mozilla Firefox have enjoyed status as WebRTC-friendly browsers, offering native support for the HTML5 specification. But Singaporean startup Temasys has released Skylink, a free plugin for OS X and Windows that brings WebRTC to both Apple Safari and Internet Explorer.
Net Neutrality was in the news last week as FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler announced a new strategy to drive Net Neutrality. Writing in a Wired opinion piece published last week, he set out a plan to require unconstrained and open Internet access eliminating last-mile tariffs and unbundling, and eliminate any throttling or charging for class of service. This time, the proposal is to use the FCC's Title II authority to recast Internet service providers as common carriers and avoid having the courts throw out the ruling.
Real time communications (RTC) used to be daunting. Proprietary codecs, dedicated programmers, expensive upfront costs of closed-code systems, servers and licensing to deal with those closed-code systems, lots of money and time simply to add voice onto a web page. Multiple by a factor of 3 or more to get to a cost estimate for incorporating videoconferencing. WebRTC tools enable any business of almost any size to Do it yourself (DIY) with WebRTC at minimal cost and expense, with integration of existing voice systems done simply through a WebRTC gateway.
While most every kid in the Northern Hemisphere has been in school for the last several months now-indeed, some are even starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak, as June and summer approach with almost startling rapidity-there are still some new developments to talk about in the education field. One of the biggest such developments reached Senegal recently, as Samsung Electronics Africa got together with the Senegal Ministry of Education to launch the Samsung Smart School, a complete mobile education solution geared toward offering students a highly-advanced experience complete with the best in interactive learning.
Sonus and Numonix announced recently that they were working together on a solution that combined the latter's RECITE call recording technology with Sonus' session border controllers (SBCs). The integration of the two products will give call centers a solution that tracks calls in a secure environment.
