The tablet market has been a hot one since the iPad showed tablet makers what could be in the market space with the right combination of specs and form factor, and ever since its release, tablet makers have been trying to find a combination of those factors that will allow them to beat the iPad. Recent reports about Barnes & Noble's next Nook says that it is going to try and improve its offering by improving the display in what's being called "revolutionary screen technology".
The next Nook's display will still weigh in around seven inches, but the technology behind that display was reportedly developed with "another company", though just which company brought together the development is unknown. The next Nook will also mark the first time that said display technology has ever been seen before, on any tablet. Aside from that, details are light, but Barnes & Noble is saying that the next Nook will be lighter, and also will continue running its own brand of Android (News - Alert).
Naturally, speculation has already begun in earnest as to the exact nature of the display technology in question. Some have suggested that Pixel Qi's (News - Alert) technology, which looked to not only match Retina resolution but do so with lower overall power consumption, may be in play, but reports have indicated that technology isn't yet in production.
