Rumour: Firefox 5 coming in June

Posted: 06 Apr 2011 11:45 PM PDT

Although Mozilla only just released Firefox 4 recently, it looks as though the folks from Mozilla are already working on a new version of their popular browser, and we should see it sooner than we think.

After the release of Firefox 4, apparently Mozilla has started working on Firefox 5, and according to the news, we should see the final version in June 29th. We are surprised to see that Mozilla will release the new version of its browser so soon, but we’re not complaining. It took a while for Firefox 4 to come out, so the rapid release of Firefox 5 is quite welcoming.

As we’ve found out, Firefox 5 is now in the second stage of development, and it's already filled with improvements. One of the disclosed improvements is the improved tabbed interface that will allow us to select multiple tabs and view them simultaneously on one screen.

Not much information is available about Firefox 5 and its new features at the moment, so we can only look forward to a possible June release and look out for more rumoured news.

Android Trojan teaches you a lesson about piracy

Posted: 06 Apr 2011 11:39 PM PDT

Trojans and malware apps are a common thing, and we've seen several of them on Android OS, but now we have a new Trojan that works bit differently than the rest. The latest Trojan to arrive comes disguised as an app called Walk and Text v1.3.7. You may have come across it before, this app can be purchased from the Android Market but in case you decide to run it, you might get a nasty new Trojan.

This pirated app looks fully functional, but in fact, it sends your personal data such as your name, IMEI and phone number to third party servers. But to make things even worse, this Trojan will send a text message to all of your contacts saying that you just downloaded a pirated copy of a app that costs one dollar. After that humiliation, the app will send you a message saying you should learn a lesson from all this and buy original apps in the future. Of course, you'll get a direct link to the official app on App Market.

This is the first Trojan that tries to humiliate you and teach you a lesson while it gathers your personal information, and who knows, maybe we'll see more of these in the future.

AMD Radeon HD 6790, a new video card for full HD 1080p gaming

Posted: 06 Apr 2011 02:38 PM PDT

Available for $150, the Radeon HD 6790 is AMD’s answer to NVIDIA’s GTX460 and here are some of its specifications; 1024MB GDDR5 memory frequency, 840MHz GPU and 800 stream processors.

What AMD is trying to achieve is a more powerful device than the HD 5770 card but not so much as the HD 6850.

Predictably, its performance offers no threat to AMD’s single-GPU flagship, but the 6790′s 840MHz graphics and shader clock speeds plus 1GB of GDDR5 running at an effective 4.2GHz data rate don’t seem like anything to sniff at either.

The new AMD Radeon HD 6790 is a recommended worthy conisderation as an excellent card for keen gamers that want to play in full 1080p high definition, but its also for home entertainment fans too.

New way to get more electricity out of water

Posted: 06 Apr 2011 02:00 PM PDT

Scientists are discovering all sorts of amazing things that make our lives easier every day. Since preservation of energy is one major concern in this century, scientist have found a way to create electricity from water in a more efficient manner.

One MIT chemistry and engineering researcher, Daniel Nocera has found a way to create electricity from water in a more efficient manner than conventional solar cells. According to the results, it seems that this method can provide enough electric power for a whole house for an entire day from just one and a half bottles of wastewater.

This method of creating electric power from water is inspired by plants and photosynthesis process, and thanks to it, Daniel Nocera managed to create an artificial "leaf" that uses cobalt and phosphate to split water molecules. After splitting comes the process in which oxygen and hydrogen recombine creating electricity, that is on a higher level than conventional electricity produced with solar cells.

This is an amazing discovery, and we can't wait until scientist have perfect it so we can use it in everyday life.

Windows 8 will bring Ribbon user interface

Posted: 06 Apr 2011 01:55 PM PDT

Microsoft is working hard on its new operating system, and it is sending the test versions of Windows 8 to the PC manufacturers. We have got an opportunity to have a look at its new and improved user interface.

It looks like Microsoft is determined to replace the standard toolbars with Windows 8, and it seems Ribbon will replace the toolbars that have been a part of Windows Explorer for decades. Ribbon has been introduced with Office 2007 and 2010, and we can even see it in Windows 7 applications such as Wordpad and Paint. As you know, Ribbon put a great number of menu options and put them into fluid and dynamic menu bar, which is perfect for all tablet users. So far, we don't know whether users have an option to switch back to the standard interface.

Ribbon interface is a welcome change to the Windows 8 user interface, but it will take some time for users to adjust to it, so it's a risky addition that might do more harm than good.
