Here's how the proposed tweaks to Dodd-Frank will impact fintechs

The US House of Representatives voted this week to make changes to the Dodd-Frank Act that would loosen regulations for banks with under $250 billion in assets.

The Dodd-Frank Act was passed by the Obama administration in 2010, in response to the financial crisis. It aimed to toughen rules around banking — including mortgages — and decrease the risk of another meltdown by increasing regulatory oversight.

The new bill will now go to President Donald Trump, who has indicated that he plans to sign it into law. This marks the first time since the financial crisis that the US will loosen the regulations around banking, and though this relief is unlikely to reach Wall Street, it should create more favorable conditions for smaller banks across the country.
