JCPenney Could Close Hundreds of Stores In yet another sign that the traditional department store is struggling, an ominous prediction says that JCPenney could close 30% of its stores within two years.
A new Cowen & Co. report says that JCPenney could close approximately 300 of its more than 1,000 locations.
The chain has managed to avoid mass store closures in the last several years, but the rise of e-commerce seems to have caught up to it and forced JCPenney to reevaluate the viability of its brick-and-mortar locations.
