Amazon is about to disrupt a $800 billion industry

Amazon has been secretly building an "Uber for truckers" app.

The app is designed to connect truck drivers with shippers in the same way that Uber connects drivers with riders. This would go a long way towards cutting out the middlemen in the industry which charge around 15% commission.

The app, which is scheduled to launch next summer, will offer real-time pricing and driving directions and is also expected to included personalized features such as truck-stop recommendations.

Business Insider's Eugene Kim has more on Amazon's plan to become a full-scale logistics company.
