Unfortunately, the predictions of industry experts that 2015 was going to be another good year for the bad guys has already become accurate as Anthem, the second largest health insurance company in the U.S., revealed that hackers had breached its computer systems.
Have you ever wished you could make better use of the average 30 minutes plus in the waiting room before your scheduled appointment with the doctor?

Session Border Controllers (SBCs) have evolved markedly over the past few years. Where once the only role was that of firewall traversal, today SBCs are a required component of any SIP installation for that plus interoperability, security, remote worker connectivity, routing, quality of service and much more.

SBCs also enable "any-to-any" interoperability with SIP trunking, allowing any ITSP to interwork with any PBX.

Learn about the latest SBC technologies and the role they play in deploying enterprise-class applications in this webinar. Case studies of real deployments will be featured.

What attendees will learn:

  • What does an SBC do?
  • What features are available in an SBC?
  • Why is Firewall Traversal so important?
  • How does the SBC manage security?
  • What does a real-world interoperability solution look like?
  • What to look for in an SBC that will futureproof my network?

Who should attend:

  • Systems integrators, resellers and distributors
  • Call center telephony managers
  • Enterprise management staff responsible for communication services
  • Enterprise technical staff supporting VoIP networks
  • Service provider network operations, product management and services marketing staff
  • Telecommunications Equipment Manufacturers looking to enhance their product offerings
  • Marketing and operations managers for hosted service providers

A couple of handset manufacturers I recently talked to mentioned that they were looking at implementing AMR-WB into their IP phones. Everyone currently looking at AMR-WB, be it for a mobile device, softphone implementation, or network core, needs to skip it. EVS is the future and it has four key advantages over AMR-WB that make it worth the effort to embrace sooner rather than later.
While the debate over net neutrality remains centered around what it means for consumers and ISPs, there's an even bigger threat brewing that could impact every business and innovation in the U.S.-and even whittle away at our already fragile economy.
In front of the scheduled February 6 release of his proposed plans on how to create a new net neutrality regime, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler took advantage of our connected world and tipped his hand about his intentions in an op-ed posting on Wired.com.
In an op-ed that just went live, Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler talks about how this week he will circulate to other FCC members, his proposal for preserving net neutrality. As expected, he hopes to do that via what's become known as Title II reclassification. The FCC is expected to vote on Wheeler's proposal Feb. 26.
Paul Allen, one of the founders of Microsoft, is the Seahawks owner and I'm sure like most of us he wasn't too thrilled with the final Sea Hawks offensive call of the 2015 Super Bowl that yanked defeat out of the jaws of victory. Ironically Microsoft had the tools the Seahawks' Offensive Coordinator could have used to prevent this bad call but the game just isn't played that way and, given Allen's roots at Microsoft and one of the technology pioneers, I think that likely should change.
It's a strange new trend that features entertainers as a new source of investment revenue, and not so long ago we saw this exemplified as Dr. Dre got involved with Beats Audio, and subsequently with Apple. Now, Jay-Z is set to make a similar move, as he's making a fairly major play for ownership of a major Spotify rival in WiMP.
New regulation on broadband and telecommunications providers is at top of mind here at ITEXPO. Jeff Pulver, founder and chief executive of pulver.com and co-founder of Free World Dialup, Vonage and Zula , is one of many voices this week warning of the evils of new regulation stifling innovation. I buy into Pulver's position that more regulation is NOT A GOOD THING, but nobody's convinced me that either Comcast or Verizon have significantly altered their behavior to avoid the big stick of Title II regulation. One area where Verizon could make amends is in its public statements and actions to humble copper wire.
