Customer care solutions are key to the success of any business today. Having customers who are happy and actually want to conduct business with a company is vital to survival in the competitive marketplace.
Ericson recently announced the decision to relaunch its Web browser supporting WebRTC again. This provides additional Internet users access to WebRTC functionality. However, what does this mean for Chrome and WebRTC when considering the bigger picture?
Skeptics might argue that Microsoft isn't fully behind WebRTC since it is quibbling over video standards by supporting H.264 over VP8, but let's face it, that's quibbling. Microsoft is, in its own words via blog posting, now working to deliver the ORTC API in Internet Explorer, plugging in voice codec support for G.711, G.722, and Opus. It is also working with open standards groups such as W3C and IETF to support scalable multiparty video conferences.
Microsoft has opened up its Skype Translator feature for a preview release. I don't know if that means beta or Free until we start charging, but either way it is a hot move. Real-time translation might be the next big feature for Real Time Communications (RTC), so we should all start paying closer attention.
Since its inception, WebRTC has been heralded as a disruptive technology that as the vehicle that will enable real-time communications right from a browser without plug-ins is poised to change the very nature in which we all engage in multiple and multi-media interactions.
Shijun Sun of Microsoft detailed Microsoft's commitment to include an ORTC based WebRTC capability in IE.
