One would think that all of the commotion set off by the disclosure/leak on April 23 by the Wall Street Journal about U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) head Tom Wheeler's decision to put out a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking today (April 24) was a sign of the Apocalypse. Before Chairman Wheeler had a chance to present his proposal, comments from those in favor of what they thought would be included and those against went viral.
While hardly as scary as a shark storm, strong winds of change are sweeping through the over-the-top (OTT) TV services space. That's because several pay-TV providers appear to be adopting a, if-you-can't-beat-them-join-them strategy that harnesses huge growth in high-speed Internet subscribers - growth that blows away any gains in new TV subscriptions.
This week, Apple announced its second quarter earnings results for 2014. Apparently, Apple's financial results topped all of the estimated forecasts. The LA Times reported it as Apple delivering a one-two punch of good news. This, in turn, sent Apple's stock soaring.

For those of you who like myself are avid followers of all things related to online security you know it is report season. As you can probably imagine, being someone who is attempting to keep an eye and ear on the continuing Heartbleed bug (aka CVE-2014-0160), bug phenomena has become almost a full-time occupation. Though there are still some doubts in this sector, there are several companies looking to move into the field as app providers for the business users of Google Glass. APX Labs is just one such company, and has raised a substantial sum in a new funding round in order to get such apps around.
I've been a Netflix member for a long time now, and in that time, I've seen a lot of movies. The joy of being able to walk out to the mailbox and pull out a new DVD is a joy that a lot of people feel, and have enjoyed for some time now. But for those who haven't already signed up, it may be a good idea to do so soon as new price hikes may be arriving for new members.

Google, makers of the Android operating system, and Apple have been locked in some kind of odd deathmatch for some time now, each side vying for dominance in the field. While the balance of power has been known to shift based on just what metric is used at the time, one thing's for certain: these two aren't backing down any time soon. The ongoing battle, meanwhile, is taking on a whole new dimension in an area that may be unexpected, yet makes quite a bit of sense: video games.
