Starbucks has long been one of those companies that seems just as savvy about the world outside the coffee sector as inside it. The company has worked hard at making itself the coffee shop for the technologically advance clientele. One particular way in which the company has stayed ahead of the curve is the way it deals with mobile payments. Part of the way the company has done this is by making mobile payments incorporated it into its own app that does more than just log payments.
By tying in coupons and giftcards into the application, the company has found a way to make people want to use a form of payment many still don’t trust. Starbucks has announced that the application that is already available in the United States will be launching soon in Canada and the United Kingdom. Starbucks is currently claiming they make about 55 million mobile transactions in the U.S. that number should jump up next year as Canadian and British citizens get used to this kind of payment.
Starbucks using this kind of mobile payment will help other industries as well. While a third of mobile users have already used some form of mobile payment, those who have been lagging blaime their lack of trust of mobile payments as the reason.
